MOMA Museum For Educators

If you’re a teacher or any other type of educator using the Secondlife virtual world to teach, the MOMA Museum For Educators is for you!

The MOMA MUSEUM is a full size museum build made by a 13 tear old student and his teacher (me) for a conversational English lessons. Originally called “Frenchie’s MOMA,” (the apple sketch is actually done by him) it’s a loose copy of the New York City MOMA and can be used for your own projects because yup, that’s right, I’m giving it away.

The MOMA features the (then) current art exhibitions, a media room, a gift and coffee shop and of course art. Including a sculpture by artist  (Ours is avatar sized though) Feel free to change it for your own needs. It is a big build, make sure you have a large piece of land to rez it on, a sandbox will do.

As an example we used it for conversational English. The student who had an interest in one day being a NYC MOMA Museum tour guide, had to research images of the museum and then describe it back to me in English. He than learned simple inworld building techniques communicated in English, made use of a inworld translator (so he could see the words written and their translations) and finally made a film documenting it all. We had an amazing amount of fun deciding how this thing was going together and how it would help us visually achieve our goal. When it was finished the student then gave a presentation and 3D virtual tour to his parents and other teachers, in English, of the different artworks throughout the building. Using a virtual world for these lessons took the focus away from not being proficient in a target language and instead immersed the student in his own virtual adventure he was not only excited about but could share with others, which in turn focused and honed his English abilities without him realizing it.

You can get the museum here: [rollinglinks]Moma on the Secondlife Marketplace.[/rollinglinks]

I hope you have as much fun with it as we did!

If you pick it up on the marketplace, it’ll cost you L1. I wanted to get it into the hands of people who will actually use it, instead of having a bunch of copies cluttering up the landscape for no good reason. I thought by charging one Linden it might make that wish possible. If you are a serious VW teacher and you don’t want to donate a Linden, contact me inworld and I’ll make sure you get a copy for free.
